The October mid-term holidays are coming up – just in time for Halloween! – which may leave many parents scratching their heads about what to do with the kids over this five-day school break. The good news is that planning memorable family holidays in Meath is an absolute breeze thanks to all the family entertainment activities on offer throughout the County. The following are a couple of ideas to get you started with your holiday plans.

Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival
This annual, county-wide, festival of horror has been running since the 7th October, with numerous establishments opening their doors to host Halloween-themed events and activities for kids, teenagers and adults alike.

You can pick pumpkins at the Alright Pumpkin Patch with your toddlers, take the older kids to the Solstice Arts Centre to watch the 2016 film, A Monster Calls, or put your teenagers’ ‘scaredometers’ to the test at the Haunted Spooktacular Horror Farm at Grove Gardens.

Tayto Park is another popular destination for holidaying families during the October mid-term break. Enjoy over 100 theme park attractions and activities, including the Eagle Sky and Eagle’s Nest Adventure Zones and dinosaur exhibitions at the Dinosaurs Alive exhibition. Attend a 25 minute, free-flying bird of prey exhibition at the World of Raptors or visit the zoo animals, including a Tiger called Amur, at the Tayto Zoo.

Tayto Park fun by night
Over the Halloween period, visitors can enjoy a range of night-time activities, including rides on the Cú Chulainn Coaster (Europe’s largest, wooden roller coaster), viewings of horror movies in 5D and a terrifying tour of the Morbid Manor.

Funtasia Waterpark
Funtasia Waterpark is an Egyptian themed entertainment centre that offers over 200 water activities catering to all ages. Parents can enjoy a dip in the Jacuzzi, younger kids love the Atlantis Cove Indoor Play Area and outside splash pools, and older kids have the option of rides on adrenalin pumping speed slides like The Boomerang and The Superbowl.

Rathebeggan Lakes
Rathbeggan Lakes is a Family Adventure Park located just 30 minutes from the Ardboyne Hotel. It boasts fun lakeside activities for the entire family, including paddle boat rides, water rollers and a water trampoline. Avid anglers can enjoy a stint of fly and bait fishing for rainbow trout at the water’s edge of one of Rathebeggan’s main lakes.

There’s an under-12’s fun zone, Fun Valley, which comes replete with bouncy castles, trampolines, a giant inflatable slide, and a new Bouncy Maze, and, for the more adventurous at heart, the High Kings Tower Activity Zone offers visitors an opportunity to climb up or abseil down its walls, or to take a leap of faith from its heights to zoom over one of the lakes on an exhilarating zip line ride.
